Ditch the Dryness: Discover the Best Face Moisturiser for Dry Skin

What makes my facial skin so dry?

Are you tired of dealing with dry, dull skin? I will explore the ingredients that make a great face oil. We all need to know how to have hydrated and nourished facial skin.

I have compiled a list of my favourite products that will quench the thirst of your dry face skin. I sometimes suffer from dull, tight, and uncomfortable skin. From my love of natural, botanical oils I have listed some of my favourite face oils and treatments.

I have enjoyed finding out what's best for my skin. I hope you will love it too.

Understanding dry skin and its causes

Dry skin is a common skin condition that affects many people. In the cold and dry months of the year, my skin became tight, dry, dull and sometimes itchy.

Similarly, as the weather warms up, the sun and humidity can play havoc with facial skin.

So I tried to understand the root cause of dry skin.

Reasons for dry skin

The depletion of the skin's natural oils, also known as sebum, is a primary cause of dry skin. Sebum acts as a protective barrier. Sebum locks in moisture and prevents water loss from the skin's surface. Environmental factors can make our skin dry, like:

  • harsh weather conditions
  • low humidity
  • and excessive use of harsh cleansers

Lifestyle can make dry skin worse, like:

  • prolonged exposure to hot water
  • frequent hand washing
  • and a lack of proper hydration

Certain medical conditions can lead to dry irritation, such as:

  • eczema
  • psoriasis
  • and hypothyroidism

There are many things that can cause us to have dry face skin. Lets learn how to help restore your skin's natural moisture levels.

The importance of using a dry skin moisturiser for face

When it comes to addressing dry skin, using a dry skin moisturiser for face, like a face oil can be a game-changer. Face oils provide deep, long-lasting hydration for parched complexions.

One of the key benefits of using a face oil for dry skin is its ability to seal in moisture. Face oils create a protective barrier on the skin's surface. Face oils prevent water loss and lock in the skin's natural oils. This helps to maintain the skin's optimal moisture levels.

Face oils are rich in nourishing botanical oils that target the root causes of dryness. Argan and Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil contain a high concentration of:

  • essential fatty acids
  • vitamins
  • and antioxidants

These nutrients work to replenish the skin's lipid barrier. This helps to soothe irritation, and improve the health and appearance of dry skin. Face oils can also help to improve the skin's texture and radiance.

By nourishing the skin, face oils can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Using face oil in your skincare routine will help to achieve a healthy complexion.

Hydration and nourishment of facial skin can help to relieve dry skin. By regular application of face oil it can help dry skin by locking the goodness in.

Key ingredients to look for in face oils for dry skin

The best face oil for dry skin should provide effective hydration and nourishment. This means understanding what skin needs and how to meet these needs.

Your skin science

The outer layer of skin is the stratum corneum. It's the part you see and feel. It protects your skin from environmental stresses and keeps hydration in. Applying a good face oil helps to form a barrier for the lipid layers below.

Lipids are oils within our skin. Lipid molecules play a crucial role in maintaining the skin's protective barrier. They prevent water loss and protect the skin from environmental aggressors.

Lipid-rich face oils can help to restore and strengthen the skin's natural barrier. This helps to achieve a more hydrated and resilient complexion.

Applying a good face oil to your face is like putting a Band-Aid on a scratch to help it heal in good time.

Active ingredients

Here are some of the ingredients that I use in my formulae to power up your skin’s natural barrier:

Hyaluronic acid

One of the most sought-after ingredients in face oils for dry skin is hyaluronic acid. This powerful humectant can attract and keep up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. It an excellent choice for replenishing and locking in moisture.

Hyaluronic acid helps to:

  • plump up the skin
  • reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • leave your complexion looking and feeling refreshed
Shea Butter
Shea butter and nuts

Shea butter is another ingredient that is beneficial for dry skin. This rich, emollient butter will deeply nourish and soften the skin.

Shea butter is high in fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Shea helps to:

  • soothe irritation
  • reduce inflammation
  • and improve the appearance of dry, dehydrated skin
Camellia seed oil

Camellia Oleifera

Omega-rich oils are essential for maintaining the skin's lipid barrier. They promote a healthy, radiant complexion. Camellia seed oil contain a high percentage of Oleic to Linoleic acids. Studies show that oils with more oleic to linoleic have a better barrier repair ability.

Camellia oil is a great choice for shiny hair and moisturised facial skin.

Argan Oil

Natural and organic options for moisturising dry skin

The botanical oils I use in my formulae are true to their botanical name. Each botanical oil has it’s own hero advantage. All are perfect for dry, sensitive facial skin.

Face oils harness beneficial botanical oils. My formulae are:

  • minimal or no essential oils included in my facial treatments
  • suitable for sensitive skin types (patch test for 24 hours first, to be 100% certain)
  • GMO free
  • vegan friendly
  • and petrochemical free.

Natural and organic face oils offer a more holistic approach to addressing dry skin. They provide deep hydration and nourishment. And without the use of synthetic additives or harsh chemicals.

Plant-based formulae can achieve a healthy, glowing complexion. Natural and organic face oils support sustainable and ethical practices too.

How to apply face oil for greatest hydration

The Oil Cleansing Method is a safe and natural, time honoured process to cleanse and soothe skin. A lot of cleansers on the Market are foam based but in fact they may strip the skin of its natural oil barrier. As a cleanser, oil attracts oil, so it’s a gentle and effective method of cleansing your skin.

Here's how to complete the oil cleansing method:

Dampen your face with a cotton muslin face cloth in warm water.

Take a few drops of Face Oil on your fingers and make small circular movements on facial skin.

After cleansing, pat your skin dry with a warm, damp muslin face cloth. This will help to seal in the moisture and allow the face oil to glide on.

Next, place a few drops of your chosen Face Oil and warm it between your fingers.

Gently press and massage your face in small circular movements. This will help to activate the ingredients while the oil absorbs into the skin. Be sure to pay special attention to drier areas, such as the cheeks, forehead, and around the eyes. Remember to keep oils away from eyes, like eye ducts.

Pat a non-irritating sunscreen on your face to provide UV protection.

Morning routine:

Complete the oil cleansing method and follow with sunscreen for UV protection.

Evening routine:

Follow oil cleansing with Vitamin A + B Night Serum for more deep nourishment.

Remember, a little goes a long way when it comes to face oil and serum. Start with a small amount and slowly increase the quantity if needed.

There it is. It's not too much to do for great benefits.

Don't forget about the importance of hydration from the inside out. Drink water throughout the day.

Eat water-rich foods, such as cucumbers, watermelon, and leafy greens too.

Botanical oils are wonderful for protecting facial skin. The face oils, serums and treatments I have chosen provide deep hydration for facial skin. By understanding how our skin works, we can choose a face oil made with beautiful botanical oils. And get great results.

There is a lot more to know about your skin's science. Like our statum corneum, there's a lot more underneath and on top.

Learn what's in your skincare and choose wisely.

Go gently and slowly to note how it is working for you.

I hope this article has inspired you to look for botanical ingredients in your skincare. And I hope that you will try the oil cleansing method. Please share this blog with friends and family.🐝
