Benefits of Using Essential Oils in Your Home
The benefits of using essential oils in your home are many and varied. Using essential oils in your home can:
- enhance physical and mental well-being of anyone who enters
- reduce stress and anxiety
- purify the air due to their antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties
Essential oils have a natural ability to purify the air and reduce unpleasant odours. Many essential oils can help to create a healthier living environment. Citrus oils like orange and mandarin can freshen up the air. And leave your home smelling clean and inviting.
Essential oils like lemon and mandarin have a refreshing and uplifting aroma. We have memories created from our experience of scents. These memories can be joyful or sad. Our personal experience of scents can affect how we appreciate an essential oil. I love these citrus fragrances. Lemon brings back memories of when I climbed in the lemon tree in my back yard. And of picking mandarins from the tree over the fence! These memories were of the delicious scent, taste and colours on the sunlit leaves.
How does aromatherapy work?
Essential oils are extracted from plants, wood and flowers. The oils are in concentrated form, capturing the life of the plant. Pure essential oils are effective in healing us. We breathe in the qualities of the plant from their essential oil.
Essential oils evaporate into the air easily. Our sense of smell has a direct connection to the brain, and this in turn affects our emotions and well-being.
Essential oils can boost your mood and improve cognitive function. Oils such as peppermint, rosemary, and lemon are invigorating and have uplifting properties. They can enhance mental clarity, improve focus, and even increase energy levels. Using these oils in an aromatherapy diffuser can make your home more vibrant and mentally stimulating. Essential oils help in making it an ideal space for work, study, or creative activities.
How to use a ceramic aromatherapy diffuser in your space
A ceramic aromatherapy diffuser is perfect for smaller spaces like bedrooms or bathrooms. They are quiet and decorative. A ceramic diffuser is ideal for creating a serene atmosphere and doesn't take up much space.
My ceramic aromatherapy diffusers are handmade and stamped with my logo. As the essential oil drops into the grooves of the ceramic disk, it is absorbed into the porous surface. The essential oil scent diffuses into the air and brings a beautiful, natural ambiance to your home. No electricity or water is required.
A ceramic aromatherapy diffuser is a simple and effective method to inhale the aroma. Place it in a space in your home where you can enjoy your favourite essential oil scent.
Popular Essential Oils for Calming Effects

Lemon
Lemon essential oil comes from the expression of the peel of the fruit. Lemon essential oil makes a lovely air freshener and is very useful when you have a cold or your immunity is down. Use a few drops of lemon essential oil on the ceramic aromatherapy diffuser when your immunity is low to fight off flu. Lemon helps to enhance calm, brings happiness and heightens alertness. As well, it can help to disperse negative thoughts. Lemon essential oil is helpful in deterring insects as well.
Mandarin
Mandarin essential oil has a delicate, sweet, fresh and citrus scent. Like, lemon, mandarin is extracted from the peel. It has qualities of being antiseptic, an antidepressant and detoxifying. Mandarin helps to uplift the sprit with its citrus scent. And being a mild oil, is safe to use in pregnancy and for children.
How to use an aromatherapy diffuser: step-by-step guide
Using an aromatherapy diffuser is a simple process that can easily become a part of your daily routine. The first step is to choose the essential oil or blend of oils that you want to diffuse.
Next, add a few drops of your chosen essential oils to the ceramic diffuser. I like to add 6 drops of essential oil to a ceramic diffuser.
Place the ceramic diffuser near where you are relaxing. Breathe in the aroma over the next 30 minutes to 1 hour. Allow yourself time to experience the benefits of the essential oils.
Pop the ceramic diffuser in the dishwasher every now and then to give it a clean.
The ceramic diffuser is porous, so the essential oils, won't spill over. Use your ceramic diffuser in any room in your home. Use it in the car, or other areas that need a fresh scent. I love to use my ceramic diffuser with a few drops of mandarin essential oil while I work. I place my ceramic diffuser on my laptop workstation to help me to be more productive (I hope anyway)!
Safety Tips for Using Essential Oils and Diffusers
While essential oils offer many benefits, it's important to use them safely. Only use high-quality, pure essential oils from reputable sources.
Six drops are all that’s needed on a ceramic aromatherapy diffuser. Only a few drops of essential oil is enough.
Don't place essential oils neat on to skin. Dilute with a carrier oil.
Keep essential oils out of reach of children and pets.
Don’t ingest essential oils.
Consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.
Enjoy the benefits of essential oils in a safe and comfortable environment.
